Our Fellow Man

For the 4th of July we celebrated with a neighborhood block party. We got to meet many people we didn't know and people we did. Chris and a bunch of other parents bought poppers because fireworks had been banned due to severe drought condition's so we did what we do best, let the kids throw poppers and have a huge cookout. It was so much fun. I even met a older women who was living with her daughter's and granddaughter's. Her husband was retired military and took his second retirement job right back at Kelly AFB doing the same job but as a civilian making x10 the money! Nice huh! Anyway, her husband past away last year of severely high blood pressure(which scares me because my dad has it and we were informed yesterday that my 31 year old brother Jay has high blood pressure also, it runs in the family that is for sure) and lung cancer (never smoked a day in his life, all second hand smoke, nice!:( Anyway, I told her what we had to drop to move into this house and that Chris installed all our ceiling fans and garage door opener etc..... So I called Chris over because she asked if Chris wouldn't mind doing that for her on his spare time. So of course Chris is doing that for her. She said now that I know who lives in that house on the corner I'll walk over and see if he is home to come over and install them. She offered to pay but I told her there is no way we would take a dime. That this is called being a good neighbor and doing whats right for a fellow military family who so honorably served his country. She was so grateful to us it brought tears to my eyes and made me remember yet again, that when ever I complain about the military life style and all the benefits that are just being taken away, that there were those who served before us and laid the foundation of supporting the fellow military family and protecting and serving all Americans for us to have the priviledge's of all our opinions and the freedoms we are allowed. Not only that, I thought about all the military men and women who served during my father's time who didn't know that all that second hand smoke would one day kill them. It was the "in" thing to do back then. Smoke inside, outside, in cars, in the work place. No one knew any better. Anyway, my point is that as we celebrate the 4th of July, our country's independence and we look back on those who have served and died for our country and freedoms allotted to us to remember even if we can't help thousands we can help one fellow man, our neighbor a fellow retired military family. That makes me stand up and remember what we do is worth it, what my fellow military families do even thou we are pushed to links most people can never fathom, we do it and we do it with honor in the name of Freedom. So next time you want to rant and rave over the state of our country and throw a fit about the war and the men and women who die remember this..... They died for you to have that opinion and it allows me to say to all those who have this opinion, to shut up and if they really want to have an opinion then go sign the dotted line get a I.D. card and go stand on those front lines and then have a opinion. I guarantee you you'll change your outlook and attitude and actually for once understand and respect your fellow man. Happy 4th of July!
